The SYMBIO Biomonitoring System has once again found itself in the crosshairs of foreign journalists. This time, the influential American portal devoted to pop culture - Bored Panda, published an article about the PROTE solution applied on a unique water intake located in the Vistula river current – the Fat Cathy (orig. "Gruba Kaśka”). The title of the article "Someone Explains How Poland Uses Clams To Control Its Water Supply And It's Pretty Crazy" indicates that the use of mussels (or more broadly - biomonitoring) in the process of controlling the quality of water at intakes is still a novelty for many people. Although in Poland the SYMBIO Biomonitoring System has been operating in 50 water intakes already, including the above mentioned Warsaw, Lodz, Katowice, Rzeszow, Torun, Kalisz, Stargard, Walbrzych and Legionowo.
Our eastern neighbors, the editors of the first information and entertainment portal in Russia, 1Gai.ru, published a photo of mussels in the SYMBIO system in Warsaw, which was the 30th in the ranking of 48 most amazing photos from around the world. Among the photos that appeared in the ranking are, among others, Rainbow Mountains in Peru (4th place), a hermit crab with a glass shell (10th place), Lotus Temple in Deli (15th place), the former most populated place in the world - Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong, where the population density in the early 1990s of the 20th century reached 2 million people per km2 (place 28th), gigantic lightning over the Italian city of Benevento (place 34th) and lightning over the Statue of Liberty in New York (place 35th).
The fact that the mussels of the Unio tumidus species from the SYMBIO Biomonitoring System have become the subject of interest of photographers and found themselves in such a distinguished group of world photographs, fills us with pride!
